Casino NSW Tractor Rally 26th July 2014

On the 26th of July I took three tractors to the inaugural Casino NSW tractor show, arrived there about 9am and there was already about 20 tractors there over the course of the morning that number steadily increased to approx. 50 tractors, there was small engine exhibited as well as vintage trucks, including two vintage log trucks restored by the Brown and Hurley group who also had on display a restored David Brown tractor and Bristol Crawler. About 20% of the tractors were in restored condition, alot of the original tractors had been brought in from local farms where they have been sitting in paddocks and sheds.

Tweed Tractors-Tractor Show

Recently while cleaning out my fathers’ office we found an old photo album filled with Polaroid photos. The album included photos from the early days of the family business, Tweed Tractors, operating in Murwillumbah NSW.

Tweed Tractors started in the early 1980’s as a tractor dealership selling and servicing Shibaura Tractors. It also sold in the Tweed area Allis Chalmers, Universal Farmliner, and John Deere tractors. During the 1980’s the company acquired Subaru and Mitsubishi car franchises. Later on taking on the franchise for Mitsubishi-Fuso Trucks. I started my apprenticeship in the truck workshop in 1999. The company name changed to Bedser Automotive in early 2000’s with the development of a 2nd dealership in Tweed Heads. This part of the business including the car dealership in Murwillumbah was sold in 2007. Today the company trades as Murwillumbah Truck Centre and is a dealer for Daimler trucks which includes Fuso, Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz truck brands.

What brought interest to me in the album was the photos of vintage tractors at a show, asking my Dad he thinks it was at a show in Beenleigh QLD where Tweed Tractors had a display, most likely the early to mid 1980’s.

On this post you can see these photos of the Tweed Tractors display and some of the various vintage tractors there. Would be interesting to know where these tractors are today and what condition they are in. Anyone with any information please leave a comment.
